We’re people who came to Denmark from somewhere else for work, study, love, curiosity, or a mix of all four. Along the way, we’ve navigated culture shocks, bureaucracy, learning Danish, career pivots, and the question we’ve all heard at least once, “So… what are you doing in Denmark?”

Through conversations, stories, and shared experiences, we explore what life here actually looks like beyond the official guides, glossy brochures, and often-exaggerated PR.

Our mission

Creating an honest, accessible space for internationals in Denmark.

We share real stories and lessons from the international community in Denmark so you feel a little less alone. Through personal journeys, practical insights, and thoughtful conversations, we explore what it means to build a life here, from understanding Danish society to finding your place as a newcomer. We often bring in expert guests, always guided by familiar voices that represent and amplify the community’s perspective.

Derek Hartman, host and producer of the What Are You Doing in Denmark podcast.

As an international himself, Derek guides each conversation with curiosity, context, and a focus on the questions and concerns of the community. While developing episode plans and conversation topics, he brings together personal stories and expert perspectives to make complex topics easier to understand and talk about.
